The American Iron and Steel Institute (AISI) expressed its appreciation to the US Department of Commerce (USDOC) for its decision to investigate imports of grain-oriented electrical steel (GOES) products under section 232.

AISI said the study was crucial for the domestic capacity of grain-oriented electrical steel production.

On May 4th, the DOC announced its decision after several inquiries. The research scope included stack type transformer core, winding core, transformer and transformer regulator.

AK Steel, a subsidiary of Cleveland-Cliffs, is the only US producer of grain-oriented electrical steel.
