The American Iron and Steel Institute (AISI) expressed its support on the introduction of the legislation which aimed to strengthen the US’ trade remedy measures to combat trade cheating and enhance law enforcement.

The US steel industry has repeatedly been impacted by the unfair surged steel imports in recent years. Although the domestic steel producers have sought relief under the existing US trade remedy system, they are still facing surged steel imports from other countries not controlled by the original anti-dumping (AD) or countervailing duty (CVD) measures.

Therefore, this new bill was expected to solve the whack-a-mole problem when new imported products immediately replace the old ones through continuous investigations and faster relief than the current system.
