Aluminum prices have surged amid speculation that the United States is about to impose sanctions on Russia, possibly targeting the metals industry. Uncertainty about specific industries affected has investors nervous, with President Joe Biden hinting that a "significant" sanctions package will be unveiled on Friday.

President Biden has announced impending sanctions related to the tragic death of Russian opposition leader Alexei Navalny. While details remain scarce, U.S. national security adviser Jake Sullivan mentioned focusing on elements of Russia's "defense industrial base" and other sources of revenue for the country's economy.
