Ardagh Metal Packaging-Europe (AMP-Europe), a division of Ardagh Group, has entered into a Virtual Power Purchase Agreement (PPA) with BNZ in Portugal. This agreement, set to begin in 2026 and lasting for 12 years, will secure 146 GWh per annum of renewable electricity certificates, which are anticipated to offset around 50 per cent of AMP-Europe's energy consumption across the continent.

David Spratt, CEO of AMP-Europe, said, "We are delighted to partner with organisations like BNZ that share our commitment to accelerating a clean energy transition. This vPPA marks a significant milestone in the expansion of our vPPA portfolio in Europe and is a major step towards AMP's CO2 reduction and renewable electricity goals".

Schneider Electric, a prominent advisor in corporate renewable energy procurement and carbon management, assisted AMP-Europe in selecting the project and negotiating the vPPA. This latest agreement follows AMP-Europe's earlier solar energy arrangement in Germany with Sunnic Lighthouse GmbH. The company plans to continue collaborating with Schneider Electric on additional PPAs to achieve its 100 per cent renewable electricity goal by 2030.

Luis Selva, managing director of BNZ, said: "Our collaboration with AMP-Europe demonstrates how a strategic alliance can have a significant positive impact for all parties involved. This vPPA not only strengthens our presence in Portugal, one of our key markets, but also contributes to our shared commitment with AMP-Europe to promote decarbonisation and move towards a more sustainable future".
