ArcelorMittal expected to restart blast furnace A at Gijón plant

ArcelorMittal is working to resume operations of the blast furnace A at the Gijón steel plant in northern Spain by the end of next week. The blast furnace has been idled since a fire accident that occurred on March 22 during the scheduled maintenance.

The blast furnace A has a scheduled life until 2025. After completing the reconstruction of the refractory, the furnace was expected to be resumed next week, said the company.

ArcelorMittal is operating two blast furnaces at the Gijón site, with a total annual production capacity of 4.5 million tons.
