Atlas Renewable Energy and ArcelorMittal have inaugurated the 315-MWp Part B of the Luiz Carlos Solar Park in Minas Gerais, Brazil, completing it three months earlier than planned.

This photovoltaic facility represents ArcelorMittal's first solar plant in Brazil and required an investment of R$895 million. The project also included the installation of a 65-km transmission line with a 500 kV voltage level to connect the plant to the National Interconnected System.

Everton Negresiolo, CEO of ArcelorMittal Long Steel LATAM, said that the energy generated will supply the company’s own facilities, helping to diversify its energy mix and lower operating costs. Under the Build, Operate, and Transfer (BOT) model, ArcelorMittal Brasil will take sole ownership in December this year.
