ArcelorMittal Poland is expected to idle the No. 3 blast furnace in Dabrowa Gornicza from September this year in response to increasing operating pressure, and only keep the No. 2 blast furnace in operation.

The company pointed out that the sluggish market demand, high energy costs, and carbon emission quota pressure, coupled with the lack of effective defense measures against imported steel in the European Union, have led to the continuous decline in the competitiveness of local steel mills.

ArcelorMittal Poland temporarily closed the No. 3 blast furnace in October 2022 and restarted it in early 2023, but now faces suspension again.

According to statistics from the Polish Steel Association, imported steel currently accounts for 80% of the country's demand, of which flat products account for 95%, and the sources are spread across Ukraine, Serbia, and many Asian countries.

The company is also negotiating with the Polish government on PLN 1 billion of state aid for the Dabrowa Gornicza blast furnace modernization project, hoping to support long-term transformation.
