ArcelorMittal's Polish division will completely shut down its coke oven battery in Krakow, which has been in hot mothballing since November 2023 due to decreased steel demand.

Decarbonization efforts are expected to further reduce coke demand in the future. Most of the 230-plus employees have been reassigned, with 70 employees being transferred to other units.

In 2023, ArcelorMittal Poland's steel production dropped by 10.3%, and coke production fell by 12.8%. The company has invested over PLN 10.5 billion in Polish assets, significantly reducing emissions. ArcelorMittal aims for climate neutrality by 2050, with a 35% CO2 reduction target by 2030 for European plants.
