Australian shares fell 1 per cent on Tuesday, the third consecutive day of losses as investors fretted about the risk of a global recession after Shanghai and Beijing tightened COVID-19 curbs in a world of higher interest rates.

The benchmark bounced from its lowest level in three months. Ten out of the index’s 11 categories slipped with materials and energy taking the lead.
