Brazil’s crude steel output decreases in May

According to the Brazil Steel Institute (IABr), in May, Brazil’s crude steel output amounted to about 2.58 million tons, decreasing by 7.4% from the same month a year ago. The domestic steel products sales increased by 0.4% year on year to 1.71 million tons, and the apparent consumption of steel products went up by 4.9% year on year to about 2.14 million tons.

In the first five months of this year, the country’s crude steel output climbed by 0.6% year on year to about 13.56 million tons. During the same period, the domestic sales of steel products grew by 1.9% year on year to 8.32 million tons, and apparent consumption increased by 5.1% year on year to about 10.26 million tons.
