Brazil’s MPF recommends Thamisa suspend Taquaril iron ore mining project

Brazil's Federal Public Ministry (MPF) has recommended that Taquaril Minerao SA (Thamisa) should obtain a permit from the Brazilian Institute of Environment and Renewable Natural Resources (IBAMA) before it causes bad effect on the Serra do Curral vegetation and environment.

The recommendation to suspend the Taquaril iron ore mining project was issued by the attorney Carlos Bruno Ferreira da Silva, who said that the project was classified as having great polluting potential. He also said that it is necessary to have the correct technical characterization of the existing vegetation in the place so as to avoid the priceless irreversible environmental damages.
