According to the report, the China Chamber of Commerce to the EU (CCCEU) indicated that China's government is considering imposing a high tariff on imported vehicles with large displacement engines from the EU. This measure was related to the US' high tariffs against China's products, and the EU conducted anti-dumping investigations on Chinese electric vehicles.

The CCCEU said that the China government can impose tariffs of 25% on imported gasoline vehicles and SUVs with engine displacements greater than 2.5L based on the regulation from the World Trade Organization (WTO).

China imported about 250,000 vehicles with engine displacements greater than 2.5L in 2023, accounting for 32% and 80% of the total imported vehicles and China's large-displacement engine vehicles consumption. If temporary tariffs are implemented, it will have a significant impact on vehicles imported from the EU and the US.
