In 2023, domestic primary aluminum prices will continue to rise, driven by strong internal demand and relatively weak external markets. This dynamic opened the window for increased imports of primary aluminum, resulting in a significant increase in annual import volumes.
In addition, reshaping global primary aluminum trade dynamics has led to more products flowing into China, with Russia becoming an important source country. Therefore, China's primary aluminum imports will increase significantly in 2023, easing the supply shortage caused by local production cuts.
At the same time, aluminum alloy imports have also remained at one million tons.
