According to statistics from the General Administration of Customs of China, China exported around 9,950 tons of alumina to Russia in March this year, far beyond the 104.5 tons in the same month a year ago. China’s total alumina exports in March had a year-on-year surge of 108%, reaching roughly 13,000 tons.

After Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, Australia previously announced the imposition of a ban on alumina and bauxite exports to Russia, in order to impact Russia’s aluminum production. At that time, some analysts estimated that Russia might turn to China to buy these raw materials.

Separately, China's oil imports from Russia dropped by 14% in March. However, Russia remained the second-largest source of oil for China, only second to Saudi Arabia.
