According to statistics from the General Administration of Customs of China, China's unwrought aluminum and aluminum products imports amounted to around 197,100 tons in March, falling by 4.6% compared to the same month a year ago.

In the first quarter of this year, China imported around 533,100 tons of aluminum, down by 19% year on year.

In spite of the decreases in the volume, the March and January-March import value had a year-on-year hike of 16% and 2.4%, respectively.

Due to high energy prices, some foreign aluminum producers had been reducing their production since late 2021, so the prices of the metal in overseas markets are higher than those in China.

In March, China’s unwrought aluminum and aluminum products exports had a hike of 34% to approximately 594,400 tons, and the imports of bauxite were up by 16% to 11.7 million tons, both year on year.
