According to statistics from the General Administration of Customs of China, China imported around 223,000 tons of unwrought aluminum and aluminum products in April this year, rising by 27.1% compared to the same month a year ago. The increase in imports was mainly due to domestic supply being restricted by power problems in Yunnan.

Yunnan is the fourth-largest aluminum producing province in China, accounting for about 12% of China's total aluminum production capacity. Aluminum production in Yunnan has been dropping due to lower hydroelectric power generation. The rainfall in this province is still below previous years’ levels. It was expected that production in Yunnan will not resume significantly even if the situation somewhat improves.
