According to statistics, China’s aluminum production in December grew by 4.13% year on year, and cumulative production this year increased by 3.9% year on year.
In December, some aluminum smelters in Sichuan and Guangxi cut production. Sichuan suffered losses due to high alumina and electricity costs, while Guangxi reduced production due to technological transformation. Plans in Xinjiang, Inner Mongolia, and Ningxia are progressing normally.
As of the end of December, the existing domestic aluminum production capacity was around 45.7 million tons, the operating capacity was roughly 43.5 million tons, and the operating rate increased to 95.38%.
Looking forward to January 2025, China’s aluminum production capacity was expected to be stable, and the negative impact of early production cuts on output would be more obvious. As the Chinese New Year holiday approaches, downstream demand weakens, and the proportion of liquid aluminum will further drop to about 70% in January.
