According to market participants, China is gradually focusing on the implementation of the environmental protection policy, so it was expected that China will try to reduce the dependence on iron ore imports and replace it with electric furnace steelmaking, which is more environmentally friendly. Therefore, scrap consumption in China will grow obviously in the coming years.

Due to the surge in scrap consumption, the imports of scrap were expected to increase to 500,000 to 1 million tons in 2021, and the volume will even soar to 3 million to 5 million tons by 2022.
