China’s stainless steel imports increase in May

According to data from China’s customs, China’s stainless steel imports amounted to about 142,000 tons in May, increasing by 16.1% month on month but plunging by 38.3% year on year.

During the month, Indonesia, Japan, and South Korea were the main China import sources, with about 130,000 tons in total.

At the same time, China’s stainless steel exports amounted to 352,000 tons, a month-on-month decrease of 6.4% and a year-on-year fall of 27.7%.

In the first five months of this year, the accumulated imports were about 725,000 tons plunging by 48.7% from the same period a year ago. The exports were 1.7 million tons, declining by 12.2% year on year.
