China’s steel exports increase in Jan-Feb y-o-y, expected to decrease in Q2

In the first two months of 2023, China’s steel exports amounted to about 12.19 million tons, hiking by 49% year on year. Meanwhile, the steel imports totaled around 1.23 million tons, plunging by 44.2% from the same period of last year.

Among them, China exported steel plates, hot-rolled coils, and medium-thick plates with about 7.26 million tons, 1.78 million tons, and 578,000 tons, respectively.

Regarding the outlook, China’s steel exports were expected to go down in the second quarter. The monthly average steel exports were forecasted to be about 2.5 million to 3 million tons during the period.
