According to data published by China Customs, in the first two months of 2022, China exported a total of around 8.2 million tons of steel, decreasing by 18.8% compared with the same period of last year. Meanwhile, the country imported around 2.2 million tons of steel, decreasing by 7.9% year on year.

As the global supply chain recovered after the pandemic crisis, Chinese steel mills have begun to receive fewer orders from exterior markets since last May.

In short term, China’s steel export price may still maintain at a relatively low level. As the Chinese government would like to restrain the steel export, it was estimated that China’s steel exports may face difficulties in keeping growing.
