En+ Group, a major shareholder of Rusal, asked the European Union (EU) to remove all tariffs imposed on low-carbon aluminum in order to support the green economy.

Nowadays, the development of low-carbon aluminum has become important. The major aluminum producers have been looking for different ways to reduce emissions, especially during the smelting process. They are trying their best to reduce their hurts to the earth. Therefore, the current one-size-fits-all Carbon Border Adjustment Mechanism (CBAM) tariffs for aluminum should be adjusted.

RUSAL stated that the adjustment might impact the EU's downstream aluminum producers and fail to make a distinction between imports of high-carbon aluminum and low-carbon aluminum.

RUSAL also mentioned that if the EU’s current mandatory rules on low-carbon aluminum tariffs are removed, it would be a great help to stimulate the global aluminum industry’s decarbonization.
