According to the International Aluminum Institute (IAI), global aluminum demand was expected to grow by 40% by 2030. It was calculated that the global aluminum industry needs to raise the overall primary aluminum output by 33.3 million tons per year to catch up with the demand growth.

The demand in the transportation, construction, packaging and electrical industry was expected to have a large increase. The four industries account for 75% of the global demand growth.

China was expected to account for two-thirds of this growth in demand, with 12.3 million tons. The rest of Asia will have a demand of 8.6 million tons per year, and North America and Europe will need 5.1 million tons and 4.8 million tons per year, respectively. These four regions will occupy more than 90% of the global additional demand for aluminum.
