Global crude steel production decreases in Jul

According to the World Steel Association, crude steel production across 71 countries dropped by 4.7% year on year in July, totaling 152.8 million tons. Among them, China, the world's largest steel producer, reported an output of 82.9 million tons, marking a 9% decrease from the previous year.

In contrast, India saw a 6.8% increase, producing 12.3 million tons. Japan's production fell by 3.8% to 7.1 million tons, while the U.S. experienced a 2.1% decline, with 6.9 million tons produced. Russia's output dropped by 3.1% to 6.3 million tons, and South Korea's production decreased by 3.4% to 5.5 million tons.

Germany and Turkey, however, saw increases of 4.8% and 4%, respectively. Brazil recorded the largest growth, with an 11.6% rise to 3.1 million tons. Overall, steel production across 71 countries fell by 0.7% in the first seven months of 2024, reaching 1.1 billion tons.
