Global primary aluminum market has supply shortage of 797,000 tons in Jan-Aug

According to a report released by the World Bureau of Metal Statistics (WBMS), the global primary aluminum market has a supply shortage of 797,000 tons in the first eight months of this year, and the shortage in the whole year of 2021 was 1.603 million tons.

In the January-August period, the global demand for primary aluminum was nearly 46 million tons, down by 349,000 tons from the same period in 2021.

During the period, global primary aluminum production slid by 12,000 tons compared to the same period a year ago. In August alone, the global primary aluminum production totaled 5.83 million tons, and the demand was roughly 5.81 million tons.
