ICSG: Global copper mine output to drop by 1.5% in 2020

According to a report released by the International Copper Study Group (ICSG), the global copper mine output will drop by 1.5% this year, which has slid for two consecutive months, and the figure will rebound by 4.5% in 2021.

The ICSG said that the decrease in 2020 was mainly due to some provisional closure of mines caused by the COVID-19 epidemic, especially in Peru.

However, the reduction was partially offset by the commissioning of some new mines, including Russian Copper Company (RCC)’s Tominskoye mine and Deziwa copper and cobalt mine in the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC).
