On June 18, 2021, the Indian Ministry of Commerce and Industry announced that it has made an affirmative ruling of anti-dumping (AD) on aluminum foil 80 microns and below originating in or exported from China, Thailand, Malaysia, and Indonesia, and the AD duty rate was set at 398.45%-976.99% on China, 93.53%-339.93% on Thailand, 850.45% on Malaysia, and 422.28% on Indonesia.

The products involved are under HS code heading 7606.

The original AD investigation was launched on June 20, 2020, following the request filed by Indian domestic enterprises Hindalco Industries Ltd., Raviraj Foils Ltd., and Jindal India Ltd.

According to market participants in India, the AD imposition on aluminum foils will not affect the supply gap as the domestic industries have been expanding production capacity recently so that the domestic production capacity is ample to meet demand.
