India to add new steelmaking capacity of 40 million tons by 2025-26

According to Assocham (Associated Chambers of Commerce and Industry of India), India will add a new steelmaking capacity of 40 million tons by 2025-26.

Vinod Nowal, the chairman of Assocham's National Council on Iron and Steel, said that the domestic steel production capacity was expected to reach 300 million tons and crude steel production would hit 255 million tons by FY31.

The Indian Steel Association (ISA) said India's domestic steelmaking capacity is 154 million tons per year as of March 2023, and the figure will be scaled up to 194 million tons with an additional 40 million tons by FY26.
