The Indian Stainless Steel Development Association (ISSDA) will make a request to the Commerce Ministry to launch an investigation into the dumping of stainless steel products from China and Vietnam.

ISSDA would represent the industry as it will file an application soon with the Directorate General of Trade Remedies (DGTR) to probe into the subject projects in the domestic market, as the cheap imports made the local producers less competitive. The application is expected to be done in the next few weeks.

According to domestic producer Jindal Stainless, it found stainless steel imports rose by 7% in FY25 from China, and imports from Vietnam soared by 176% in the year and 64% in the fourth quarter of FY25.

Based upon the recent market research, India's stainless steel imports increased to 1.73 million tons in FY25 as those mostly from China, Indonesia, Vietnam, and South Korea.
