Indonesian ESDM proposes to restrict construction of ferronickel & nickel pig iron smelters

Indonesian Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources (ESDM) recently proposed to restrict the construction of ferronickel and nickel pig iron smelters and encourage to build nickel sulfate and stainless steel smelters as the former two raw materials’ added value is relatively low.
The current estimated export price of ferronickel is US$5,000 per ton lower than that of nickel sulfate.
