PT Indonesia Asahan Aluminium (Inalum) announced the Final Investment Decision (FID) for its launch of two major projects in 2024, the expansion project at the aluminum smelter in Kuala Tanjung, North Sumatra, and the second-phased project of the Smelter Grade Alumina Refinery (SGAR) in Mempawah, West Kalimantan.

Upon completion of the works, the Kuala Tanjung aluminum smelter's annual production capacity will reach 600,000 tons, and the Mempawah alumina refinery’s capacity will also be increased to 3 million tons per year from the current 1 million tons per year.

Inalum CEO Danny Praditya added that the company’s aluminum production will rise to 274,140 tons by 2024 from 250,000 tons, benefiting from a strategic cooperation with Emirates Global Aluminium (EGA).
