ISSF: Global crude stainless steel production slides in H1 2020

According to statistics released by the International Stainless Steel Forum (ISSF), the production of global crude stainless steel totaled around 23.67 million tons in the first half of 2020, sliding by 9.4% compared to the same period a year ago, due to the impact by the COVID-19 epidemic.

Among them, the production of crude stainless steel from Asia, excluding China and South Korea, had a year-on-year decrease of 23.9% to 2.97 million tons; that from China had a year-on-year decrease of 2.7% to 13.96 million tons; that from Europe had a year-on-year decline of 16.3% to 3.13 million tons; that from the US had a year-on-year drop of 20.3% to around 1.08 million tons; that from other countries, including Brazil, Russia, South Africa, South Korea, and Indonesia, had a year-on-year decrease of 8.4% to approximately 2.54 million tons.
