Jamaica’s alumina production grows, bauxite production decreases in Q4 2023

According to statistics from the Planning Institute of Jamaica, the real value added of Jamaica’s mining and quarrying industry increased by 23.6% in the fourth quarter of last year, mainly due to the decline in bauxite output but the increase in alumina production.

During the period, the alumina capacity utilization rate grew by 9.6% year on year to 39%, with output increasing by 32.9% year on year due to higher capacity utilization at the Jamalco alumina refinery.

Besides, the bauxite capacity utilization rate fell by 12.1% year on year to 32.7%, and the bauxite output had a year-on-year drop of 27%.
