The Japanese government said Tuesday that it has launched an investigation into allegations that stainless steel products were exported from China and Taiwan at unfairly low prices, following complaints from four domestic producers.
The finance and trade ministries said they will determine whether to impose anti-dumping duties on imports of nickel-added cold-rolled stainless steel coils, sheets and strips, adding the investigation is expected to be concluded within a year.
Nippon Steel Corp., Nippon Yakin Kogyo Co., NAS Stainless Steel Strip MFG. Co. and Nippon Kinzoku Co. filed the request with the government on May 12, according to the ministries.
The complaints allege that Chinese and Taiwanese products were sold in Japan at prices 20 percent to 50 percent and 3 percent to 20 percent lower, respectively, than in the domestic markets of China and Taiwan.
