Japan and South Korea had a discussion last week in South Korea, and the focus is on CBAM (The European Cross-Border Carbon Adjustment Mechanism) for steel industry.

They are collaborating in order to cope with the uncertainties associated with the European mechanism system. One of the key problems is the confusion surrounding the CBAM reporting system. It requires steel suppliers to report detailed data and figures of carbon emissions.

The initial reporting period was based on standard values from CBAM, while the uncertainty for the future requirements has been causing confusion for steel suppliers. Both countries will work together to solve the issues through continuous consultation with EU.
