According to Japan Aluminium Association (JAA), Japan’s aluminum products output totaled around 153,100 tons in May this year, dropping by 1.2% compared to the same month a year ago, the second consecutive month of yearly decline.
Among them, the output of aluminum plates, used in the manufacture of cans, electronic equipment, auto components, and for exports, had a decrease to 102,100 tons, the first decline in seven months. The output of aluminum extrusions, applied in construction and automobile industries, was down by 3.6% to 51,000 tons, the fifth consecutive monthly decrease.
In May, Japan’s shipments of aluminum products fell by 1.7% year on year to 150,300 tons, which have fallen for three months in a row, due to the decrease in demand for aluminum cans, the automobile market, and construction.
In the fiscal year 2021/22 ending in March, Japan's aluminum products output rose by 9.4% year on year to around 1.89 million tons, the first increase in four years, mainly driven by growth in demand for aluminum cans and automotive aluminum.
