It was predicted that Japan’s primary aluminum demand will remain weak from July to September due to the slow recovery in the aluminum manufacture industry and increasing import from oversea caused by the Covid-19.

Several car producers in Japan have decreased their output due to the dropping car sales since April, and it was predicted the demand in the auto industry might rebound slightly in July to September, but the demand will not back to a normal level by the end of this year.

It was expected that the demand in can industry will recover faster from the COVID-19 pandemic. Japanese beverage can maker Toyo Seikan is planning to invest US$110 million for a new plant, which will produce the cans for its soft and alcoholic drinks, with a capacity of 500 million cans per year. The plant was scheduled to start production in April 2021.
