The London Metal Exchange (LME) nickel price has sharply fluctuated and the stainless steel market has been greatly affected.

Taiwan's largest stainless steel mill Yieh United Steel Corp. (YUSCO) actively develops 400 series nickel-free stainless steel, which was hoped to increase the market share and reduce the impact of nickel prices on stainless steel.

In addition, Walsin Lihwa Corp. invested in related plants in Indonesia, which have completed four production lines at present. However, the monthly production capacity of nickel was approximately 2,000 tons, only accounting for 60-70% of its full capacity, due to the local electricity rationing.

Chinese steel mills were not sure when the government will restore metal productions. This phenomenon is likely to increase the impact on downstream consumers and reduce the demand for nickel in the market.
