Due to the long-lasting coronavirus outbreak, the demand for steel products declined sharply.
Under this situation, Nippon Steel Corporation decided to decrease its overall output by lowering the tapping ratio of blast furnaces, extending the time between blasting, and conducting other effective measures.
The No. 2 blast furnace of Hokkai Iron & Coke Corporation would be suspended and renovated. This blast furnace was expected to be shut down by around the end of the first half of the fiscal year2020.
