According to the Aluminum Association, domestic aluminum demand in North America (the US and Canada) rose by 4.3% year on year in the first quarter of this year. Charles Johnson, president and CEO of the association, said that their customers and end consumers have interests in sections of more sustainable and recyclable materials.
In the first quarter of 2024, aluminum demand, including domestic producers' shipments and imports, in the US and Canada totaled roughly 6,955 million pounds, compared to 6,666 million pounds in the same quarter of last year. Among them, shipments of primary aluminum ingot and sheet/plates had year-on-year growth of 16% and 6.1%, respectively. However, shipments of aluminum foil and extrusion dropped by 19.2% and 5.4% year on year, respectively.
As of April this year, North America's imports of unwrought aluminum and semi-fabricated aluminum products have slid by 13.5% year on year.
