Finnish stainless steel maker Outokumpu has partnered with German steel distributor Klöckner & Co. to supply stainless steel with the lowest carbon emission and has gained market share in the industry.

The first batch of stainless steel coils has been delivered. It is part of Outokumpu's Circle Green product line aimed at decarbonizing the industrial sector to be launched in June 2022, with larger volumes to follow from 2023.

Outokumpu said that the Circle Green product is the first of its kind in the world, considering the carbon dioxide emission in the entire production chain, no other stainless steel manufacturer produces stainless steel with such low emission, and the aim was to increase energy efficiency across the group by 8% in 2023 and 2024, which would save about 600 GWh of energy.

Klöckner said it has placed Outokumpu's Circle Green product in the Prime category, thereby expanding its portfolio of CO2-reducing materials under the new master brand Nexigen.
