Outokumpu entered the aerospace additive manufacturing market with its first commercial batch of stainless steel powder delivered in May 2025. After launching into the metal powder sector in 2023, the company has now supplied the aviation and aerospace industry with material for a heat exchange component produced via 3D printing in collaboration with industry partners. Prototype validation is currently underway.

The powder is austenitic with unique alloy additions, offering a competitive alternative to nickel-based alloys, and is designed for faster development cycles and small-scale production. Outokumpu also develops nickel-free powders for jewelry and medical use, and heat-resistant alloys for turbines and power plants.

Additive manufacturing is seen as a key to sustainable industries. Outokumpu aims to foster innovation and circularity through cross-industry partnerships and advanced manufacturing ecosystems.
