It was reported that Rio Tinto is investing US$8.4 million to raise the aluminum recycling capacity of its aluminum plants in Saguenay-Lac-Saint-Jean, Quebec, Canada, to provide the rolled product customers in North America with a new, sustainable solution of low carbon and recycled aluminum.

The firm will newly add a remelting furnace to the casting center of the Laterrière Plant, which will be used to recycle aluminum cuttings from Rio Tinto’s processing progress, and then used in the automotive and packaging industries after remelting.

This new aluminum recycling system was expected to start operations at the end of 2021, with an initial annual production capacity of 22,000 tons of remelted aluminum.
