Rio Tinto’s bauxite production slides in Q3

Rio Tinto, the second-biggest mining company in the world, reported that its bauxite production totaled 13.7 million tons in the third quarter of this year, down by 2% compared to the year-ago period. The decrease was due to equipment reliability issues at Gove.

During the period, the output of alumina was 1.8 million tons, a year-on-year decrease of 5%. The shipment of iron ore in Pilbara was 82.9 million tons, down by 1% year on year. However, the iron ore production in this region was 84.3 million tons, up by 1% compared to the corresponding period a year ago.
