United Company RUSAL (RUSAL), the second-largest aluminum producer in the world, reported that its aluminum sales totaled 976,000 tons in the second quarter of this year, slower than 1.08 million tons in the same period a year ago.

According to RUSAL, the decrease in its sales volume was due to a negative impact on demand caused by the COVID-19 epidemic. The second wave of potential epidemic is still bringing uncertainty to the market; however, most countries are more optimistic about the second half of this year.

In the first half of 2020, global primary aluminum demand had a year-on-year drop of 6.6% to 30.3 million tons, while global output was up by 1.8% year on year to around 32 million tons.
