According to the report, South Africa's International Trade Administration Commission (ITAC) has released preliminary results of its steel tariff review, which began in March. ITAC has proposed increasing the import tariff to protect the domestic steel industry from the impact of low-priced steel products from China.

The ITAC is planning to raise tariffs by 10% on certain products, such as steel flat products, steel bars, steel wires, angles, and sections. Additionally, the tariff on some steel pipes will be increased from 10% to 15%.

The ITAC indicated that raw materials used in steel production, particularly those for stainless steel, will remain exempt from import duties. However, specific categories of coated and uncoated steel products, rebar, wire rods, and pipes intended for infrastructure and water supply purposes will be subject to import regulations.
