South America's alumina production grows in Aug

According to statistics released by the International Aluminum Institute (IAI), South American alumina production totaled 996,000 tons in August this year, hiking by 2.21% compared to the previous month and by 6.3% from the year-ago period.

North American alumina production was 211,000 tons during the period, up by nearly 5% compared to the preceding month but down by 0.5% from the same month a year ago.

In the first eight months of this year, alumina output in South America was around 7.6 million tons, a year-on-year decrease of 9.21%. Meanwhile, North American alumina output was approximately 1.6 million tons, down by 7.75% year on year.
