South Korea’s stainless steel plate imports have decreased for two consecutive months, dropping by 40% to 30,000 tons in April month on month. The situation might be caused by nickel prices in February skyrocketing and leading to a stop quoting or reduction of import contracts.

The total import of stainless steel plates in April was around 3,500 tons, a month-on-month decrease of around 45%, down by roughly 28% year on year. Among them, hot-rolled and cold-rolled product imports were separately around 12,000 tons and 18,000 tons, a month-on-month decrease of 52% and 39%, respectively. Compared to the year-ago period, it decreased by almost 35% and 22%.

In the given period, the major hot-rolled coils import source was Japan, with a total of around 3,900 tons. The following were China’s 4,980 tons, Indonesia's 1,600 tons, and Taiwan’s 760 tons.

In terms of cold-rolled coils imports, China, Taiwan, and Indonesia accounted for approximately 13,000 tons, 2,200 tons, and 840 tons, respectively.
