Tata Steel Ltd. has successfully rolled the first coils at its Jamshedpur CSP® plant in Jharkhand, India, following an extensive upgrade by SMS group. The revamp included a new F7 finishing stand and upgrades to the existing X-Pact® automation systems, including full renewal of hardware and software. These enhancements allow the mill to produce thinner gauges and higher-quality products.

The CSP® plant, commissioned in 2011 with an annual output of 2.5 million tons, produces strips 900 to 1,680 mm wide and 16 to 1 mm thick. The upgrade also optimized roll-changing equipment and rolling load distribution for harder materials at wider widths, while improving overall efficiency.

Other improvements included modernized mill stands F1 to F5, reinforced cooling units, SIEFLEX® gear-type spindles, and advanced X-Pact® ProBAS automation for precise rolling schedules, cooling, and flatness control.
