Hydro Aluminium UK, a British aluminum extrusion producer, has warned that the UK’s proposed anti-dumping (AD) duties on China’s aluminum extrusions are too low, which could lead to surged imports, factory closures, and unemployment.

In the UK's first AD investigation after Brexit, the Trade Remedies Authority (TRA) recommended a 10.1% duty on aluminum extrusions from three major Chinese exporters. The duty set by the EU and the US was 22.1% and 33.3%, respectively.

Low tariffs could be absorbed by Chinese exporters, and they would also receive substantial support from the Chinese government, wanted Roger Ablett, managing director of extrusions at Hydro Aluminium UK.
